Lot Description
1793 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-3, B-3. Rarity-3. VF-30 (PCGS). An extremely popular issue among both early Copper specialists and type collectors, the 1793 is not only the first U.S. Half Cent, but it is also the only one of the Liberty Cap, Head Facing Left type. This moderately worn survivor retains plenty of bold definition to the major devices, and some of the finer elements of the obverse portrait and reverse wreath are actually quite sharp. A planchet flaw (as made) is evident at the lower-left obverse border, and it is also somewhat discernible in the opposing area on the reverse. As for post-production detractions, however, we see little of note apart from some old, light surface build-up in the protected areas around the reverse wreath. With solid technical quality for the grade and a very pleasing "look," this important Half Cent is sure to see spirited bidding at auction.
