Lot Description
(1842-52) G$1 A. Bechtler Dollar, 27G. 21C., Plain Edge AU58 NGC. K-24, R.3. The first circulating gold dollar in the United States was privately coined by the Bechtler family, initially in North Carolina and later in Georgia. Kagin-24 is always available at a price, but many examples are impaired. This near-Mint piece has bright sun-gold luster throughout the legends. The open fields are toned orange. A few minor marks are consistent with brief circulation. Housed in a former generation holder, and listed on page 361 of the 2010 Guide Book. From The Longfellow Collection.
