Lot Description
Undated 25C Liberty Round 25 Cents, BG-201, High R.7, MS63 PCGS. The standard Breen-Gillio reference notes that Kenneth W. Lee discovered this extremely rare variety before 1970. The obverse stars are from a punch with one broken point, and many of the stars are double-punched. The S in CENTS is entered too high, and the bow is oversized and triangle-shaped. BG lists six coins, ranging from MS63 to a plugged (and presumably circulated) piece. Of those pieces listed, this may be the # 2 piece, only identified as "Another coin certified by PCGS as MS-63." The surfaces are bright yellow-gold with semiprooflikeness on the obverse only. Identifiable by a minute irregular planchet flake out of the obverse near the rim at 4 o'clock. The Jay Roe specimen graded MS62 and brought $9,775 in Bowers' 2003 sale of his collection.
