Lot Description
Undated $1 Liberty Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-501, Low R.5, MS63 PCGS. The only undated Octagonal Dollar variety. Period One California Dollars are always in demand, especially if they have an unusual motif. BG-501 is among a small number of varieties that feature an eagle, shield, and banner that strongly resembles the obverse design of the legendary Humbert slugs then in circulation. This prooflike canary-gold representative is meticulously struck and seemingly has eye appeal that exceeds the assigned grade. O in CALIFORNIA is widely repunched, and faint die cracks (as made) travel below RNIA in CALIFORNIA. Other mint-made die cracks journey to the right of the shield and through the right end of the ribbon. From the Holman Family Collection.
