Lot Description
1859 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-227, Pollock-271. Rarity-6-. MS-64 (PCGS). The obverse features the same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1859 Indian Cents (Pointed Bust hub variety). The reverse exhibits a broad ornamental shield above the denomination ONE CENT, which is partially encircled by an oak wreath. An olive sprig and bundle of three arrows are bound at the base of the wreath. Stuck in copper-nickel with a plain edge.
The strike is generally sharp, but it appears that some kind of foreign matter clogged in the obverse die in the area of the upper-right border resulting in soft detail to the devices in that area. Dominant bright-tan color with subtle pale-rose highlights that are more pronounced for the reverse.
