Lot Description
1845 1/2 C Original PR62 Red and Brown PCGS. B-1a, High R.6. The 1845 has long been regarded as the rarest issue in the proof Coronet Half Cent series of 1840-1857. This lot offers a mostly pink-red example whose surfaces are a bit too subdued to warrant a higher grade. Olive-amber toning reaches toward the centers on both sides, this being most readily evident on the obverse. The surfaces display glossy, multicolored undertones as the coin rotates beneath a light. A powerfully impressed representative of this half cent rarity. Per Breen (1983), 11 original and three impaired examples of this die marriage are extant. From the Lynch Collection.
