Lot Description
1852 1/2 C Restrike, Small Berries PR63 Red and Brown NGC. B-2, R.5. Breen State III. EAC PR63. Slight evidence of obverse buckling is noted. The 1852 First Restrike half cents are easily the most plentiful of all proof-only half cent issues. This is especially meaningful for the date, as nearly every other denomination is extremely rare in proof. Only the 1852 proof dollars rival this issue for population. An impressive example with nearly full orange mint color on both sides. A few splashes and spots of deep brown toning are visible in the fields, with similar specks on the reverse. Previously NGC certified PR64 Red and Brown, per Superior. Ex: B. Max Mehl (1950), lot 2461; Superior (2/2003), lot 154. From The Colonel Steven Ellsworth Collection of U.S. Half Cents.
