Although obviously heavily worn, the historical significance and one year type status of the 1793 Chain cent confirms the desirability of this more affordable survivor. Only isolated portions of the design are discernible, and even most of those are faint, although the chain motif on the reverse remains fairly bold. Additionally, enough detail is (barely) discernible in the reverse legend to confirm the AMERI. Guide Book variety and, hence, the S-1 attribution. Even dark-brown patina with light grazes and shallow scuffs that are more prevalent on the obverse.
