Lot Description
1794 1C Head of 1793 VF25 NGC. Fine 12 EAC. S-18a, Die State II, R.6. This rare Head of '93 variety was called the "Double Chin" by Sheldon, as it is almost an exact replica of Obverse 12 (from 1793) but it has a pronounced double chin. The surfaces are non-porous but do show some planchet roughness, and there are numerous small, but individually insignificant abrasions on each side. The obverse has slightly mottled light and darker brown patina. This is the third finest of a very rare sub-variety and a great prize for the 1794 specialist. Ex: Henry C. Colvin Sale, Philadelphia MANA (French's #80, 10/19/62), lot 21; R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (New Netherlands, 11/73), lot 339; Del Bland (3/6/76); Dr. Robert A. Schuman; Myles Z. Gerson; Del Bland (3/25/84); Darwin Palmer; George E. Ewing, Jr. (11/21/93).
