Lot Description
1751-C French Colonies Sou Marque. Caen Mint. Vlack-68. Rarity-7. MS-64 (PCGS). CAC.
This is an elusive issue in all grades, the present example ranking as the only piece certified by PCGS and probably among the finest two or three survivors. Well centered in strike overall, this coin is exceptionally well detailed with all features bold to sharp. Exceptional bright satin texture with delicate gold and pink highlights to an otherwise mostly silver gray sheen. There are no significant or otherwise mentionable blemishes.
Although completely unrelated to the coin being offered here, World War II history buffs will recognize Caen as the sight of the legendary defense of the German 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend and other units against primarily British and Canadian troops during the early phase of the Battle of Normandy in 1944.
