Lot Description
1804 1C VF20 NGC. S-266c, B-1, R.2. The 1804 is well-known as an important issue in the early cent series, despite the R.2 rating suggesting that as many 1,000 to 1,200 survive. This late die state example has heavy rim breaks over RTY on the obverse and over MERI on the reverse, the latter just missing the adjacent C. This pleasing piece has the sharpness VF20, with the grade reduced slightly for its faint porosity and even fainter scratches on each side. Possibly cleaned at one time, the surfaces exhibit a combination of steel and reddish-brown with only a few other trivial blemishes on each side. MRB Fine 15. Purchased from Steven Ellsworth (Butternut Coins). From The Jack Stickel Collection.
