Lot Description
1814 1C Plain 4 MS64 Brown NGC. S-295, R.1. Classic large cents are one of the scarcest types of early copper coins to locate in high grades. As an example, this is one of only two coins certified as MS64 by either of the major services and only two pieces have been certified finer (4/03). This is a reasonably well struck coin that shows some softness over the highpoints on each side. The surfaces show the usual deep, even brown patina that is normally seen on Classic cents. This unspotted near-Gem is also remarkably free from abrasions with the only ones of any note located between ONE and CENT on the reverse. From the James L. Moore Collection.
