Lot Description
1855 Braided Hair Cent. N-9. Rarity-1. Grellman Die State e. Slanting 5s, Knob on Ear. MS-64 BN (PCGS). In this die state, the crack (a.k.a. knob) is raised only under the letter T in LIBERTY, with additional cracks below the letter Y not yet raised to extend the size of the knob. A popular Guide Book variety in an appealing state of preservation, this piece is fully toned in a warm, even, copper brown patina. Yet even so, more direct angles still call forth subtle rose-red undertones, especially on the obverse. The devices are sharply struck, even the obverse stars, and one or two insignificant blemishes are all that seem to preclude an even higher numeric grade. Sure to please.
