Lot Description
1860 1C PR66 PCGS. Rounded Bust. While the total mintage for proof 1860 cents was 542 coins, it is believed that not quite half (250) of that number were of the Type Two or Rounded Bust variety. It is also possible that since these pieces were produced later in the year than the Pointed Bust proofs, more may have been melted as unsold at year's end, further limiting the number of coins available to future generations of collectors. This is a beautiful example that has uniform honey-golden surfaces. The only defects we see on this high-end coin are weakness on the topmost feather of the headdress (possibly from a clogged die rather than actual striking weakness) and a tiny carbon spot just below Liberty's lower lip. Population: 24 in 65, 4 finer (2/04).
