Lot Description
1883 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Perhaps surprisingly for a proof 1880s Indian cent with a sizeable original delivery of 6,609 pieces, the 1883 is a condition rarity with which to be reckoned. Most survivors display Red and Brown surfaces, and what few fully lustrous examples are extant typically grade no finer than PR63. Among the finest proof 1883 cents that we have offered, this high-end Gem is fully brought up from an obviously powerful impression. Shimmering reflectivity is noted, mostly on the obverse, and the surfaces are equally free of grade-limiting distractions. The luster is perhaps the single most important feature, and it is both full and vibrant with alternating cherry-red and orange-red colors. Population: 4 in 66 (1 in 66+) Red, 1 finer (1/13). Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2003), lot 5310.
