Lot Description
1926-S 1C MS64 Red NGC. Full Red luster is a feature not often associated with 1926-S Cents at any level of Mint State preservation. The appearance of the present near-Gem is certainly a sign of an important auction. Lange (1996) even suggests that the '26-S may be the premier rarity in the Lincoln Cent series at the MS64 Red and MS65 Red grade levels. Rich orange-red color blankets both sides of this coin, and it is undisturbed by outwardly distracting abrasions and carbon spots. The bold strike is well above average for the issue, and a tiny fleck in the reverse field within the C in CENT is the only worthwhile blemish. Population: 3 (!) in 64 Red, there is just one finer (11/02).
