Lot Description
1880 5C MS65 PCGS. Here is a very rare issue in any Mint State grade, and a coin which is virtually impossible to locate in Gem Uncirculated grades as offered here. Note the vibrant mint luster in the fields, and the satiny surfaces. We note a minute faded speck below the N of IN on the obverse, and the coin is bright save for a minor blush of color surrounding the date. A scant 16,000 were coined as virtually all the coining efforts went into the massive Morgan silver dollar production starting in 1878. There are no flyspecks or similar detractions on this memorable coin, and any collector would appreciate this quality. The combined NGC and PCGS Population reports note 5 pieces have been graded this high, with a single coin graded higher. Keep this in mind when bidding, as a finer example is unlikely to appear anytime soon. Housed in an older green label PCGS holder.
