Lot Description
1918-S Buffalo Nickel. MS-65 (NGC). Extraordinary quality for the collector as this date is virtually unobtainable at the Gem Mint State level with a mere 14 graded this high by NGC with 2 finer. Glistening luster in the fields and showing classic nickel-gray with a dash of pale rose-gold. The strike is sharper than average despite minor die wear and the usual Buffalo nickel issues, with each of the letters well defined in the peripheral legends, the bison's tail and his horn are all complete but perhaps a trifle soft. Examination finds no specks or spots of any size, and the surfaces are a delight to study as there are so few nicks from bag handling. Mintage of 4,882,000 pieces, and this is clearly one of the very finest to survive.
