Lot Description
1919-D 5C MS66 PCGS. The list of strikes against the average 1919-D nickel, even in Mint State, is a long one. Such complaints include weak detail overall, with extreme loss of definition at the bison's head; mediocre luster; and unappealing, streaky luster. Still, as this Registry-grade coin demonstrates, the right piece can overcome all of these problems. Each side exhibits detail that would be strong for almost any issue, not just the often-soft 1919-D, as well as pleasing luster and warm, pink-imbued gold-orange patina over much of the surfaces. Add in a distinct lack of marks, and the result is an incredible representative that continues a long run of memorable Buffalo nickels. Population: 13 in 66, 0 finer (2/07).
