Lot Description
1919-S 5C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Fivaz Collection. Even an issue that "is notorious for being weakly struck" and often has "disappointing luster," in the words of Lange, can produce an attractive example once in a while. The present piece is a testament, not only to that idea, but to the discerning eye of its previous owners. The strike is distinctly above-average when compared to its peers, particularly on the bison's head. Washes of blue and gold patina cover lustrous fields that lie somewhere between the typical quicksilver luster and a frosty texture. Overall, the eye appeal is strong for this Gem, and not just in the context of the 1919-S. A significant coin that is sure to attract attention from savvy bidders. Population: 30 in 65, 2 finer (1/11).
