A challenging date to find well-struck, this piece is faint on the bison's forehead and horn, yet the rest of the design's features are remarkably bold in definition. The braid, lettering and mintmark are sharp, and there is plenty of detail in the Indian's hair and around the bison's neck and back. Original coloration is present, consisting of light, appealing, blue-gray and rose toning. This coin will be difficult to improve upon, as its detractions are more than compensated for by its important combination of attractive, satiny luster and suitably bold strike.
