Sharply struck in most areas, and superior in this regard to the typical '24-D nickel, billowy mint luster and smooth looking surfaces are also worthy of praise. A simply exquisite example of this conditionally challenging Denver Mint issue, and made even more so by the presence of iridescent toning in champagne apricot and powder blue. Writing in the second edition of the book The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, David W. Lange describes the 1924-D as, ""...scarce and among the least available of the D-Mint nickels..."" Gems are particularly elusive.
