The 1927-S is one of the more curious mintmarked Buffalo Nickels from the 1920s in terms of rarity distribution for the surviving examples. This is actually a well-struck issue, and locating a coin with bold-to-sharp definition should not be an overly challenging task under normal market conditions. On the other hand, high-grade Uncs are just as rare as those of many important strike rarities in this series. The reason: the 1927-S is a heavily circulated issue with few examples having been set aside at the time of delivery.<br /> An extremely fortunate survivor, the coin we offer here not only escaped circulation, but it has come down to us without acquiring so much as a single detracting blemish. A sharp strike and satiny luster are easily seen, and they are further enhanced by lovely toning in lilac-gray and reddish-gold patina. Worthy of inclusion in the finest Buffalo Nickel set.
