1795 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. B-15, BB-52. Rarity-2. BB Die State IV. Centered Bust. EF-45 (PCGS). 26.85 grams. The weight given on the PCGS insert differs little from the standard of 26.96 grams provided for the type in the current edition of the Guide Book; the planchet is a tad light, to be accurate, but still close enough to the standard to have been deemed acceptable to contemporary Mint personnel. Lightly worn over devices that still present as bold to sharp in all areas, this appealing Choice EF also exhibits pretty toning in blended silver-lavender and rose-apricot iridescence. The strike is well centered within fully denticulated borders, and a lack of noteworthy abrasions further enhances the coin's appeal. This is the earliest date used on Flowing Hair silver dollars, 1795 also being one of only four issues of the short-lived and conditionally challenging Small Eagle reverse type. The present example is sure to be greeted with open arms by high grade circulated type collectors as well as early dollar enthusiasts.
