Lot Description
1800 Draped Bust Half Dime. LM-1, V-1. Rarity-3. MS-63 (PCGS). CAC. OGH--Second Generation. The 1800 is the premiere issue in the Large Eagle Draped Bust Half Dime series, and it is always in demand for both circulated and Mint State type purposes. The present survivor is an example of the most plentiful die marriage of the issue, although it is a conditionally scarce offering in Choice Mint State. Drenched in rich antique-copper patina, the obverse does reveal more vivid undertones of blue, pale-gold and rose colors as the coin dips into a light. The reverse is overall lighter and displays cobalt-blue and champagne-pink peripheral highlights around a pinkish-silver center. Both sides are suitably bold in strike with surfaces that are so smooth as to be devoid of outwardly distracting abrasions. An impressive example with the strong technical quality and eye appeal that we have come to expect from the Denny Kemp Collection.
