Lot Description
1803 H10C Large 8 AU53 NGC. V-1, LM-2, R.4. A very scarce coin in this grade, and the present example shows strong details on Liberty's hair and on the eagle. The strike is slightly uneven, as usual for this die pairing, with minor weakness in the star field over the eagle. Toned with slightly mottled light gold and gray, with traces of blue in patches on each side. Examination will locate a couple of thin scratches, one between LI of LIBERTY, another near the inner points of the stars on the right of the obverse. A small pit is found between the second obverse star and Liberty's curls. On the reverse the surfaces show scattered nicks and a minor scrape down through the middle of the clouds. Despite the aforementioned handling marks, this coin is much better than usually encountered, and this is a difficult date to find with so little wear on the devices.
