Lot Description
1846 H10C AU 53 PCGS. The erratic production of silver coinage that dominated most of the 1840s can best be expressed by studying the 1846 half dime delivery. The Philadelphia Mint delivered 1.5 million half dimes in 1845 and a further 1.2 million pieces in 1847. In 1846, however, a mere 27,000 pieces were produced, and survivors are few and far between in all grades. An original example, the surfaces are deeply toned in charcoal-lilac shades with brighter orange undertones around the peripheries. All features are nicely defined and there are no mentionable distractions.
