Lot Description
1867 H10C MS65 NGC. Apart from the unique 1870-S, the 1867 is noteworthy as the lowest mintage regular issue Half Dime. Just 8,000 pieces were produced, and given the small emission, it is not surprising that the present Gem has bright and moderately reflective fields. Aside from a leaf corner beneath the D in DIME, the strike is precise, and the original golden-brown, ocean-blue, and lilac colors are impressive. Chased out of circulation by unbacked Fractional Currency, the Half Dime denomination never fully recovered, and was eventually ended by the "Crime of 1873." Struck from a dramatically clashed obverse die. Population: 11 in 65, 10 finer (9/05).
