Lot Description
1863 10C MS66 PCGS. In the crucial middle year of the Civil War, both half dimes and dimes saw skimpy mintages of 18,000 and 14,000 business strikes, respectively, which matter little as no gold or silver circulated at the time. The 1863 dimes are key to their series (as are the half dimes), and their 14,000 mintage makes them the lowest-mintage issue of the Legend Obverse type, one that is rare in any grade. The present Premium Gem is nicely mirrored, with a deep-blue obverse sporting a faint rose undertone. The reverse is bright golden-rose with a strong ring of blue at the margin. A faint mark across Liberty's left (facing) breast is the only mentionable contact. This piece is tied with one other submission for the finest at PCGS (11/11).
