Lot Description
1888-S 10C MS64 PCGS. Fortin-101. The '88-S dime was minted in substantial numbers (more than 1.7 million pieces), but its survival rate in XF and higher grades is low, and in Mint State it is extremely low. As of March 2005, PCGS has graded just 30 pieces in the various grades of Uncirculated. Our records indicate that only 19 Mint State examples have appeared for sale by the major auction firms over the past ten years. The coin in this lot is nearly white, with a wisp of light gray here and there. The surfaces display nice luster, and a couple of grade defining minute marks on Liberty's figure, and some trivial luster grazes in the right (facing) obverse field. Population: 4 in 64, 7 finer (3/05). From The Tim Cook Collection of Liberty Seated Dimes.
