Pretty olive-copper iridescence to most areas, the peripheries also revealing more vivid pink, blue and pale-gold highlights as the surfaces dip into a light. This is a sharply struck coin by the standards of the New Orleans Mint, and it is of further appeal due to the vibrancy of luster and smoothness of surfaces that characterize both sides. The 1894-O is one of the best-known rarities in the Barber Dime series. Only 720,000 pieces were produced, and Mint State survivors are so elusive that the issue is ranked second in overall rarity by Jeff Ambio in the 2009 book Collecting & Investing Strategies for Barber Dimes.
