Lot Description
1894-O 10C MS67 NGC. Rose, gold, and olive-green hues endow this fully struck and lustrous Superb Gem. A faint blemish on the cheekbone denies near perfection. The New Orleans Mint struck more than 10 million Dimes between 1891 and 1893, but production at the facility for the denomination dwindled considerably between 1894 and 1896. The 1894-O has a mintage of a mere 720,000 pieces, which ensures its status as a semi-key issue. Since few collected Dimes by mintmark in 1894, most pieces circulated until they reached AG or Good grades. As of (3/05), NGC has certified a mere 20 pieces in Mint State, the majority in MS63 or lower grades. Two examples have been encapsulated as MS64, just one piece as MS65, and only the present coin has been certified finer, as MS67.
