Lot Description
1895 10C MS68 NGC. The 1895 is the rarest P-mint among Barber dimes. Only 690,000 business strikes were produced and it is considered an overall semi-key issue in the series. Probably fewer than 100 coins are known today in the various grades of Uncirculated. Like most issues, the survivors are clustered in a traditional bell curve with MS63-64 coins at the top of the curve. This incredible coin appears to be technically flawless and stands alone among the other Mint State pieces certified. Additionally, the soft, frosted mint luster swirls around each side as the coin is tilted beneath a light, the original sheen being unaffected by the presence of multiple layers of toning. The rich colors that are present include sea-green, mauve, golden-yellow, and cobalt-blue. The reverse has the same colors, only deeper in hue than the obverse. A spectacular coin, regardless of the date or mint, but the technical and aesthetic qualities seen on this 1895-P make it one of the premier coins in the entire Barber dime series. Census: 1 in 68, 0 finer (11/06).
