This lustrous, softly frosted Gem exhibits mottled steel gray overtones to a base of lighter, silver-rose patina with bursts of electric sea-green. Smooth and seemingly abrasion free, an overall sharp strike is also an impressive attribute in an example of this conditionally challenging New Orleans Mint issue. An elusive issue in high Mint State grades -- fewer than a dozen 1898-O dimes have been graded MS-65 or finer by PCGS, including the lustrous gem offered here.
