Lot Description
1898-O Barber Dime. MS-64 (PCGS). Writing in the 2009 book Collecting & Investing Strategies for Barber Dimes, Jeff Ambio has this to say about the 1898-O:

After producing far fewer than 1 million coins per year from 1894 through 1897, the New Orleans Mint struck more than 2 million Barber Dimes in 1898. Such a respectable total belies this issue's true rarity in Mint State. The 1898-O is actually more challenging to locate in Mint State than the lower-mintage 1897-O, and it trails only the 1894-O, 1895-O and 1896-O as the rarest New Orleans Mint Barber Dime in Mint State.

Smoky-gray patina to both sides, direct angles also revealing more vivid undertones of pale-pink and golden-blue colors, especially on the obverse. Satiny in sheen, with a typical strike for the issue that is a bit soft overall.
