Lot Description
1908 90/08-D 10C MS67 NGC. FS-010.2. This is a very interesting mispunched date and it is the first of its kind that we can remember having seen. The 9 in the date shows a trace of a 0 in the upper loop, and the 0 clearly shows the remnants of a 8. Discovered by Bill Fivaz, the Cherrypicker's manual postulates that, "the date was possibly punched in one digit too far left, then corrected, polishing away any remnants of the first 1." Sounds good to us. In fact, we can't really think of another possible explanation for this oddity. Superb mint luster and attractively toned, the gray centers are surrounded by small amounts of reddish patina at the margins. It is probably not too much of a stretch to say this is the finest known example of this mispunched date.
