Lot Description
1912 25C PR69 NGC. Wow is the first word that comes to mind when viewing this spectacularly toned specimen. Each side exhibits a dramatically different toning scheme. The obverse shows rich, multicolored toning that forms a circular "target" area at the center. It is a deep sunset-golden color surrounded by electric-blue and gunmetal-blue tones. The reverse presents almost even gunmetal-blue patina with rose accents as the coin is rotated under a light. Deeply reflective in the fields and as a result, each side is brightly backlit, with significant portions of mint frost evident (even through the toning) on the devices. In fact, we wonder why this was left out of the "cameo" classification. Even under the closest scrutiny with a magnifier, one fails to note any defects or post-striking blemishes. The strike is absolutely full and sharp as expected on this obviously well made issue. Of the 700 proofs struck, this currently rests atop the remainder as the single finest certified by both services combined (11/04).
