Lot Description
1917-D 25C Type One MS67 Full Head NGC. The Type One 1917-D with a Full Head is generally available in grades through MS66, but becomes much more elusive in MS67, and is virtually unobtainable in MS68 and above. This is apparent from the population data, that indicates just 36 pieces certified by NGC and PCGS combined at the MS67 Full Head level, and only two are rated higher (7/09). The sharp strike of the present example transcends the fully detailed head of Liberty to include sharp definition on all of the rivets, as well as on the horizontal and vertical lines of the inner shield, and the eagle's torso. Lustrous surfaces are bathed in a melange of orange, lavender, cobalt-blue, gray, and lime-green patination, and are virtually abrasion-free. A highly attractive piece that is sure to please the Standing Liberty quarter aficionado. Census: 19 in 67 Full Head, 2 finer (7/09).
