Lot Description
1918-D 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. CAC. The 1918-D quarter can be located with relatively little trouble in MS64. Gems are more challenging, and finer coins are elusive. Reddish-copper toning occurs on the upper and left obverse and over the reverse of this Premium Gem, though much lighter in hue on the latter, and both sides display intense, uniform luster. It is one of the only three percent of 1918-D quarters with a Full Head, and most of the remaining design elements are better struck than ordinarily seen, including the lines of the inner shield, the last four rivets (though two are weak), the breast mail, the gown line crossing the thigh, and the date. The eagle's breast feathers reveal the typical weakness. A couple of minuscule marks on the eagle do not distract. Housed in a prior generation green holder. Population: 16 in 66 (1 in 66+) Full Head, 1 finer (12/12). From The Richard P. Ariagno, M.D. Collection.
