Lot Description
1927-S 25C MS66 PCGS. The 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter wins the low-mintage sweepstakes among Type Two issues, at 396,000 coins struck. Among nonvariety coins (excluding the 1918/7-S), only the 1916 has a lower production total within the series. A few years back Jay Cline wrote in the Coin Dealer Newsletter Monthly Summary that the non-Full Head 1927-S was "undervalued and very elusive in MS64, MS65, MS66, and MS67." Even today, a Full Head example of this date would bring well into the six-figure range. This Premium Gem boasts dazzling mint luster over surfaces that are brilliant save for a barely discernible hint of golden color at the margins. As usual for this softly struck issue, the head detail is nearly flat, and many of eagle's breast feathers lack full definition. Each side is remarkably clean overall. Population: 31 in 66, 4 finer (7/12).
