Lot Description
1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-131. Rarity-4. AU-58 (NGC). This coin is tied for the third Finest Known with one other as listed in Steve Herrman's Auction Price Guide. The color is an attractive steel-gray with tinges of blue and rose toning spanning both sides. The strike is bold throughout with Liberty showing full separation on her finer curls as well as the minute feathers on the eagle, where just the uppermost show appreciable evidence of circulation. Clean surfaces with minimal nicks and bumps from handling, and the rims display one or two minor nicks from normal handling. Middle die state with the straight crack through Liberty's head from her temple through her ear to lower curls, on the reverse from the edge to the right side of the first A in AMERICA, another at the base of the reverse. No adjustment marks and a rarity for the type or variety specialist.
