1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-110. Rarity-1. Small 8. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC. A richly toned example with warm, variegated patina across both sides, in hues of neon-green, orange, olive, and fuchsia. Well struck and highly lustrous, with carefully preserved, nearly mark-free surfaces. About one half of the obverse stars display full radial lines, the balance a trifle soft, but Liberty's curls and the eagle's feathers show boldness in the strike. As often seen, the reverse is rotated about 45 degrees clockwise, likely to counter balance the designs for striking. Two others are reported at this grade level by NGC, one of each of the two reported die states of this particular die pairing. For the date collector this is one of the top dozen known of the entire date, most of these tied at this grade level. An absolutely incredible new discovery that has been slumbering for many years in a museum collection.
