This is a very scarce, highly desirable issue in the Capped Bust series of half dollars. This high-grade example is much nicer than the usually-seen, lower grade specimens of this particular date. The motifs are well struck throughout, save for typical softness on most of the obverse star radials. Attractive original patina adorns the impressive, lightly worn, abrasion-free surfaces. The toning is lilac-gray with russet accents through the stars on the obverse, tinges of antique blue around the reverse. Collector pressure has always focused on this scarce date, with the handful of Mint State coins prohibitive in cost for most. Thus any example at this grade level should be strongly considered.
