Lot Description
1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-112. Rarity-1. MS-65 (PCGS). OGH. Deep, rich, olive-charcoal patina blankets both sides of this fully prooflike piece. Vibrancy to the luster is most potent when aided by a strong, direct light, which also reveals more vivid golden-blue undertones. Fully struck with razor-sharp definition, this coin would accept nothing less than a Gem rating.
We know of at least one other example of this die marriage that exhibits a prooflike finish from the dies. That coin--the Heifetz-Munson Specimen (Superior, 10/89, lot 764)--has been described as a "specimen strike" in the past. While we do not believe that the present example is a proof, it is certainly high in the Condition Census for the variety.
