Lot Description
1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-106. Rarity-1. Large Date, Small Letters. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. The old-style PCGS insert carries coin #6164, which is now reserved for the Large Date, Large Letters Guide Book variety of the 1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar. This is an easy die marriage to attribute, a crude digit 4 cut over a small 4 on the obverse and the left upright of the letter M in AMERICA on the reverse thin, curved and recut. Conditionally scarce Gem quality for the issue as a whole, this glorious example exhibits vivid golden-blue peripheral toning that blends with warmer copper-rose patina toward the centers. Vibrant luster is noted throughout, as is a suitably bold strike. An important offering for the high-grade type collector or Bust Half Dollar specialist.
