A frosty and glittering Gem with pale golden highlights on the obverse, the reverse fully brilliant and mildly prooflike. A key date in the series that saw a modest mintage of 390,000 pieces—only the 1913, 1914, and 1915 rarities have lower mintage figures. A touch of striking weakness is seen at the eagle's claws, typical for New Orleans half dollars throughout the series. A dozen examples of the date—which may include resubmissions—have been certified to date by PCGS, with only five examples graded finer. If you mean to start a Barber half dollar collection, we can't think of a better place to begin.
