Lot Description
1893-O 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1893-O is a surprisingly difficult issue to find in Gem or finer quality, especially with bold design definition. Compare this piece to the Thaine Price coin, for example, a coin that David Akers called "possibly the finest known specimen." While the Price coin has marginally finer surfaces, the strike of that coin is extremely weak, especially on the reverse. The specimen that Dale Friend chose for his collection possesses one of the sharpest strikes of any example we have seen or handled. An incredible example with fully brilliant and frosty surfaces, white at the centers and toned in gold, blue, green, and lilac closer to the borders. Both dies have interesting clash marks and several die cracks. Population: 4 in 65, 3 finer (10/08). Ex: Larry Shepherd. From The Dale Friend #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Barber Half Dollars.
