Lot Description
1905 50C MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1905 Barber half seems to contradict most other Philadelphia Mint issues, with a low mintage of just 662,000 coins, but a higher availability, yet it is every bit as difficult to find in Gem condition as any other issue in the P-Mint lineup. In the Dr. Thaine Price catalog, David Akers wrote that the 1905 is "not as rare as the 1903 and 1904, but its very low mintage has gained it a greater measure of fame." The Friend Collection has one of the most beautiful Gem 1905 half dollars imaginable, with nearly mark-free surfaces and frosty luster beneath gorgeous gold, tan, and pale blue toning intermingled across the obverse and reverse. The design definition is above average, with slight central weakness, especially on a few of the leaves on the obverse, and eagle's feathers on the reverse. Population: 11 in 65, 7 finer (10/08). Ex: Delaware Valley Rare Coins. From The Dale Friend #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Barber Half Dollars.
