Lot Description
1907-S 50C MS65 NGC. The 1907-S half dollar comes from a mintage of 1,250,000. David Lawrence writes in his The Complete Guide To Barber Halves reference: "Very scarce in XF and above." He goes on to say: "This is the scarcest late date of the series in MS." Lawrence assigns an R.5 value to Mint State pieces. Both sides of this Gem are awash in dazzling luster. Untoned surfaces have a silky finish, and a well executed strike leaves strong definition on the design elements, with the sole exception of the usual softness on the upper right corner of the shield and the adjacent feathers. A couple of minor obverse marks likely preclude an even finer grade. A fine die crack runs across the lower edge of the bust to the last star (mentioned in Lawrence). Census: 6 in 65, 3 finer (7/08).
