Lot Description
1914 50C MS65 PCGS. This is one of the four key Philadelphia Mint Barber half dollars along with 1910, 1913, and 1915. PCGS has only certified 10 examples in MS65 or finer grades, the lowest Gem population of the four dates. Dale Friend's example is equal to the Hugon coin, and finer than either the Price or Pryor pieces. The Eliasberg Collection had a proof example, as was the custom so many years ago, when that collection was being formed. Dale Friend acquired this amazing Gem for his collection, choosing it for its bold strike and amazing luster. Both sides are frosty and fully brilliant with only a subtle trace of champagne toning. It is slightly weak just right of the shield, as usual, but all other design elements are sharply defined. Population: 8 in 65, 2 finer (10/08). Ex: Dennis Nagy. From The Dale Friend #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Barber Half Dollars.
